Why I Don't Make Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Content

One of the more recent fighting game releases recently is Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. It came out in April 2025, and has since... been not doing great. As of this writing, on Steam Charts apparently it has 145 currently active players, with an all-time high player count of 4,592 players since launch. I think, even with SNK's somewhat more niche standards (games that are not Tekken, Streetfighter or MK), that's not good.

So why has COTW not clicked with the fighting game fans? I really can't say, but I have my own theory on this. As a gamer, I pick my fighting games mainly if it has characters that attract my attention and appeal to my taste- YES, I need barefoot babes in it, and a lot of them preferably. City of the Wolves has, count 'em, ONE. Preecha, the admittedly adorable brainiac Muay Thai megane cutie- but even she isn't totally barefoot but has them footguard thingies. Aside from her- we have three other ladies: the eternal ninja waifu, Mai Shiranui, piratess B.Jenet and kung fu waif Hotaru.

The rest of the roster are all big, burly guys- a few of them barefoot which violates my sensibilities quite a bit lol. This game is a sausage fest, and it doesn't help that instead of adding in longtime Fatal Fury mainstays like Blue Mary, they add in some soccer star and a rapper- both male. Then they have Andy and Joe- pillars of the franchise- as DLC fighters. Nah, this game just did so much things wrong early on.

But even that aside, the game doesn't look that great. Yeah, its flashy with the effects and filters, and the presentation seemed cool at first. But when you actually look at the game, the menus are clunky and not intuitive, the character models are not even better than King of Fighters XV. Honestly, KOFXV looks so much better in terms of a visual style and the look of the fighters themselves. COTW characters don't have nice proportions- and as you can see above in the screen of Mai in a bikini mod- she doesn't look that good. Her feet are nothing special (probably Preecha's feet borrowed for her) either.

What is on the horizon- Chun-Li, who is in her SF6 design. Why would that excite me when Chun is already at her best and hottest IN Streetfighter 6? Mai herself blows COTW Mai out of the water, and anyone who prefers COTW Mai to SF6 Mai need to have their eyes checked.

Then the COTW modding scene- it's pretty dead. Yeah, there are a few modders working on it, but from what I've seen, it doesn't seem very easy to mod the game's models (maybe) and the modders active for the most part seem allergic to sexy stuff. There is a modder who does nice mods, but I am not sure why he doesn't do more.

But that all aside- the simple one reason is that COTW doesn't have a good freecam function. As an Unreal 5 game, UUU (Unreal Engine Unlocker) should work, but unfortunately it has that infuriating way that trying to circle around the characters will stretch and deform the characters- the same problem that keeps me from doing content for Granblue Fantasy Versus and (mostly) DNF Duel. I simply can't capture good footage for this game for KO Galleries or Endings.

I did purchase the game recently and tested UUU on it, and confirmed my fears. Maybe this can change if someone produces a Cheat Engine CT with camera function (which works for KOFXV), but until then this game is useless to me. For now, KOFXV is my SNK game, and we'll have more on that soon. Stay tuned for more Barefoot KO Content to come!
