"Made in abyss" is pretty much guaranteed to bring the tears, but that is fantasy/adventure anime not a slice of life. "Anohana" is pretty good with a bunch of emotional scenes, but one of the main characters is a ghost so it has a pretty strong supernatural element to it. "Hanasaku Iroha" is a pure slice of life anime about a city girl going to work at an Inn in the country side owned by her estranged grand mother whom she has never met, but it doesn't have any super emotional scenes, but is pretty good over all. "Orange" is probably your best bet, it has a very small sci-fi element of a letter from the future, but its a plot point just to move the story and isn't really explored. Other than that its a pretty emotional slice of life anime about a bunch of kids in high school centered on a shy girl with a bunch of tear jerker scenes that will probably hit you in the feels.

For crying Plastic Memories... I didn't watch the ending for a few years as I didn't want to experience or go through what he was going to go through but I did eventually watch it and I creid. Anohana gets a lot of people who don't normally cry. If you aren't wanting to cry but a drama try March comes in like a lion

I don't normally do sad, but Ive seen a few suggestions for assassination classroom. That one will go from "what the crap am i watching" to "OH MY GOD what they just do?" High-school of the dead may work for what you want or school-live will leave you you speechless. Freezing was really good but i endeavored to not watch that one again, not because i didn't love it but the story was just too dark for me to get past it.

for slice of life, I think you'd like march comes in like a lion. the anime gives you feel good vibes and genuinely makes you happy every now and then. I don't think you would cry but you would be emotionally invested in the show.

If you're looking for a slice of life anime that you can get invested in emotionally I would suggest "Ascendance of a Bookworm: I'll Stop at Nothing to Become a Librarian". It's not as action-oriented as "Reincarnated as a Slime", but it has great world-building that will draw you in. +2

Tsuki ga Kirei, it has 12 episodes and ends with a closed ending. My anime of 2017 and has won the award of being couple of the decade in anime! Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai is also a very good one but has 2 seasons + movie. But if you really want a tearjerker and be emotionally scarred then I recommend Akame ga Kill since that destroyed me but has 24 episodes!
