I think saying they don't spoil anything is pretty untrue, but I still agree that she should just watch them. I personally never liked the culture of not watching openings until after finishing a season. Always felt like the point of an OP was to hype you up for what might happen without outright telling you, so if you skip watching it for the whole season, you're missing out. Especially when they show scenes directly out of the OP in episodes (which Haikyuu does) and you get that super hype moment of "Oh, that's from the OP!" Of course, some OP's are much more blatantly spoiler-y than others for anime-only people (Attack on Titan comes to mind) but Haikyuu's aren't like that IMO.
