Aegon IV never technically explicitly tried to put Daemon Blackfyre on the throne upon his passing. All he did was legitimize his bastards on his deathbed. Daeron II still inherited after him. It’s not as if Aegon IV went out of his way to proclaim that Daemon B would be his heir, the way Rhaenyra does with Jace.

Wow there is some animosity in the comments! There’s a lot of misinformation & strong opinions flying about so I wanted to add my 2 cents lol First; Jace did not instigate The Pink Dread incident, Aegon did. I felt sorry for Aemond in that scene because he was outnumbered & teased, who wouldn’t feel a little pity? Anyway, if you pay attention to Viserys & Alicent discussing it you will see Viserys say Aegon is the mastermind behind the pig, this makes me think Aegon has a history of pulling pranks (if you watch that scene he’s the ringleader of the whole scenario, doing all the talking & leading Aemond to the mouth of the pit). But she quickly changes the subject to Rhaenyra’s son’s parentage instead of admitting Viserys is right. Later (after catching him jerking it in the window) Alicent questions Aegon about the pig & Aegon admits he did it because Aemond “is a twat”. Alicent tells Aegon “you may cuff him about as you wish at home but in the world we must defend our own”, so she knows at least one of her sons is a liar, but is ok with it (but it’s not ok if Rhaenyra lied? Someone’s a hypocrite!) Second; Yes, Rhaenyra lied in front of the Weirwood, but NOT about sleeping with Daemon because that hadn’t happened yet. What she actually lied about were the events leading up the brothel & then what happens to make her leave (so like, the whole night until she gets back to the Red Keep lol). I don’t really consider it a lie when she says Daemon never touched her - they kissed & he got her hot & bothered & she WANTED him - but he stopped himself, so he TECHNICALLY never touched her no-no zones. Is it forbidden to kiss? I really don’t know. No one knew about Ser Criston yet so she didn’t have to lie exactly, she just had to not say anything about him. And can you really blame her for trying to protect herself? She was young, drunk, full of hormones & horny…anyone can make a mistake, right? Third; Who says Alicent is less pretty than Rhaenyra? It doesn’t help she’s always unhappy or angry, but she’s a very beautiful woman - even the younger version was pretty in my estimation, maybe more classically pretty than Rhaenyra. Perhaps it’s her behavior that makes her seem less attractive. However, I do not view her as a “slut” or a “cunt”. She’s a VERY unhappy person stuck in a situation fraught with peril & doing what she thinks best to ensure her sons stay alive in the long run. It boils down to a matter of taste, really, but there aren’t that many unattractive people in the show D (lol); There have been Targaryen kings who have tried to get their bastards on the throne. I will not go into specifics to avoid spoilers for any possible future shows but, it has happened. So to say Rhaenyra is worse for sleeping around & having bastards than a man who sleeps around & has bastards is just hypocritical, no matter how you slice it Fifth; Why isn’t anyone pointing out how much Criston has to do with the animosity the boys have for each other? He clearly is a pot stirrer, escalating the situation in the training yard. If only the characters could mind their business instead of dwelling on hatred & jealousy then maybe those boys would’ve been able to grow up loving each other as family instead of taking on the rivalries of the previous generation. But then we wouldn’t have a story, would we? Sixth; Rhaenyra - just like Alicent - is trying to make sure her children keep living once Viserys is dead. That is why she keeps insisting accusations about her sons parentage are “rumors” or “slanders” & wants to find out who’s spreading them. Multiple times now Viserys has told Alicent in private & declared to the court in public that these accusations are false & are not to be spoken of. There is a precedent in the show & books of bastards being legitimized by a king or lord so that they could become the heir to said kingdom or lordship. So even though Rhaenyra’s boys (of which she only has 3 at the end of episode 7, not 4) are not publicly recognized as bastards the fact that Viserys is openly denying the truth of these rumors ought to be enough to squash them for good, solidify Rhaenyra’s claim as heir & the boys lineage as Velaryon’s. The real problem lies with how weak Viserys is as King & that he doesn’t have good, strong Hand of the King to help enforce his will. Instead Otto is only furthering his own agenda because he hates Daemon - & now by extension Rhaenyra - & is so power hungry that he’d do anything to have his bloodline on the throne. I kinda think Otto’s original plan was to have Viserys marry Alicent & Otto himself marry Rhaenyra, or at least become her Hand of the Queen. But then the situation with Daemon came to a head so Otto felt the need to replace him as heir instead of waiting like 2 seconds for his daughter to have a child with the king. If he’s never forced Viserys to replace Daemon as heir NONE of this would be such a mess right now. But then we wouldn’t have a story, would we?

OC: The choreography and the dance with the camera was something we had to figure out; Miguel" had to shot-list that scene because it felt like a cobweb in terms of what lines are being crossed and what actors and reactions you're getting for each line. I was going insane toward the end. ED: It's such an interesting scene, right? My sympathy is fully with Alicent. On the page I was like, Well, she's fucking right. OC: Someone's lost an eye. ED: Someone's lost an eye! I'm so amazed every time Paddy (Viserys) basically tells you to let it go. Simultaneously, Rhaenyra is playing quite a basic game: Lie hard, do not back down, and weaponize this word "treason."

And yet can provide no legitimate arguement other than, “she wouldn’t do it”. Despite the fact she just asked for a child to be tortured to help cover up her own mistakes according to GRRM and ASOIAF canon.

I’m sorry but I have to at least mention that I find it hilarious that: Daemon, who is a murderous, pedophilic, psychotic, grooms his underage niece, misogynist, cheats in tourneys, ignores his daughter, takes advantage of his whore, and is in general a Valyrian supremacist, gets all the excuses in the world for being “complex”. Yet Alicent, who only has done her duty and slept with one zombified old man. Fulfilling her duty to the realm when she was 14, gets labeled as a “smut”. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra who’s fucked half the castle at this point. Still gets excuses made for her and why it doesn’t matter that she’s delegitimizing the entire Targaryen reign with her smutttiness. I understand it’s easy to gang up on female characters, but it seems a lot of the criticism that is weighed against Alicent, should be levied against Otto instead.

Hindsight is 20/20 so y’all acting like the reason they miss shit is cause they pause to talk, rather than they are being overloaded with info and inevitably will miss shit. I’m a diligent viewer and I watched every episode when they released twice in a row and often picked up on many missed moments. Quit complaining PLEASE.

Hey guys' i'm sure someone's already pointed this out but Laenor was in on the faking of his death. He was unhappy and Rhaenyra set him free. If you watch the scene from the beginning you'll see Daemon break a black guys neck, then the fight with Karl was purley to show the staff that they were fighting which resulted in Lord Corlys and Rhaenys running in on the aftermath . By the time they arrived they'd put the other guy in the fire, which gave Laenor time to escape with Karl. The one's i feel sorry for the most is Rhaenys and Corlys, they "think" they lost both of their children. I suppose this leaves it open in the future for him to return when really needed! I can't wait to see your reaction to the next episode !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
