💯 The movie did a good job at even surprising me by NOT doing the expected thing. Like I said, I fully expected something to happen to those cats - in most movies seeing them would be a setup and so pattern was also in my brain. So they managed to flip the script in more ways than one.

My friend thought he was a pedophile that Eli decided to use (as you pointed out, there was something in his choice of victims). I speculated that he might have started out as another childhood sweetheart, and is a view of what is in store for Oskar.

2025-10-18 14:05:56 +0000 UTCWhen you watch a vampire movie, a bunch of lore preloads in your head, and part of the interest in the movie is how they will present it/change it/debunk it. As you said, with this movie, you often forget you're watching a horror movie, but the lore is in your head, so when it pops up and reminds you, it's surprising without being confusing. In little things like Eli not being able to eat normal food or her resistance to cold. For me it really hit home in the scene where Eli climbed the hospital. Up until that point, it's not clear how supernatural the movie is going to be.
