The "애" in "어린 애" (young love) comes from the Chinese character (called Hanja in Korea) for love. The pun here is that "어린애" as a single word can also mean something along the lines of "child" or "young person".
Most Korean's are expected to know a decent number of Hanja even though they aren't used very often nowadays.
