considering how we know that like 90% of things that can be eaten or drinked tends to only come from a certain location if you want the real thing it should not be too surprising its a location i mean the majority of italian and french cuisine and drinks are only allowed to be legit called what they are called if they come from a certain place so thinking that kobe would be a place should not be too surprising really i mean it could be the name of that cow species ofcourse but a location should be the second guess really

Well take French fries for example. They were not invented in France. But I bet you assumed such didn't you? Greenland is full of ice and Iceland is full of grass.
It's a mixed-up, muddled-up, shook-up world.

Nah, in this case it's not. With regional dishes foreign to oneself you'd seldom think the name would be a location unless it was a really well known city or it said something to the effect of "(dish) from (city/town)." Shoyu ramen and Miso ramen are types of ramen, but they aren't denoting a location, Sapporo ramen (a derivative of miso) does denote it's location; however I wouldn't expect everyone to know that. But if I were to serve "Tokyo style ramen" (shoyu broth) people would immediately know it's regional origin, though they may not know what type of soup it is without actually seeing it. In this case Kobe does not carry the same weight as say a Tokyo, Kyoto, or even Osaka. I would argue it is lesser known than Sapporo and Shinjuku even.

I don't know, I always thought that Kobe beef's association to location was more obvious in comparison to things like Sushi and Ramen since it literally tells you it's from Kobe..hmm especially due to the fact that you can't get it anywhere except from Kobe Japan, at least if you want the real deal.

one is famous worldwide and the other is not, it's not a huge surprise that someone wouldn't immediately assume that the Kobe in Kobe beef refers to a location.

So Caleb knows what Kobe Beef is but doesn't know that Kobe is a Japanese city and the origin of Kobe Beef ? Tell me how that works.
