”A failed attempt at incorporating English. " ... when you just discover the existence of loanwords.

It's the very same concept in Kpop, it's not new.

I wish these people knew the difference between katakana and "Engrish". They are not even trying to speak English in most cases when we think they are speaking "Engrish". Are we trying to speak Japanese when we say "Tokyo" ? No we don't because we are pronouncing an English word which was originally a Japanese word. The same thing can be applied to Japanese people speaking katakana.

I worded that badly. What I meant to say was that the word fiction planted in the middle of the sentence if translated literally, wouldn't make any sense 'from an English speakers perspective.' I'm know about about English loan words incorporated into Japanese. (and Korean too actually but that's a separate subject.) In the context of a Japanese sentence, I understand what "Dare mo shiranai fiction" is supposed to mean just that they don't use it in the same way that an English speaker would consider correct, kind of like a lot of times they say a girl has good 'style' when talking about about a girl who looks good in regards to her body, when in English we would usually use 'style' to refer to someones clothing or outfit.

Many Japanese words are taken from English because the West introduced multiple terms foreign to the Japanese vocabulary. You wouldn't think "Fiction" would be one of those words but "Fikushon" is the most widely accepted Japanese translations.

lol that's just how the Japanese speak English. They don't really care about grammar as long as the general idea is communicated among themselves.

Jacob it doesn't 'sound like' the song said fiction, it DOES say fiction. "Dare mo shiranai fiction." A fiction that no one knows. A failed attempt at incorporating English.

Thats funny you would bring up Konosuba this episode since we were introduced to the lizard prince who is voiced by Kazuma's VA.
