Small correction, their cheers would not rhyme because the crowd would call Ippo "Makunouchi". I know its sometimes hard for us westerners to remember but Ippo is his first name, and Makunouchi is his last name. Sendo is the last name and Takeshi is his first name.

It is usually injected with a larger than usual syringe, but for one for his hand, it will probably last for an hour or longer. The problem comes though in that the pain will come intensely once it wears off.
