And it was teased in the final episode of the HxH anime. Shop owner at the World Tree holds a magazine titled "Next" Parasyte on the cover. Also the opening is done by the ones who did the first ending of HxH.

About the little kid and the car: I think it was more the parasite acted to save its host (and thus itself) rather than the kid. You guys commented on the MC making very quick, snap decisions. The way I saw it, he noticed the little girl about to be run over, and immediately tried to shield her. That would make that scene more of a testament to Shinichi's personality rather than the parasite trying to curry favor.
