i mean if they didn get it from the facts that one hyakki survived a deal that should have taken everything but kept his head/life the statue lost its own head pretty obvious

2019-08-29 10:46:26 +0000 UTCThe reason why the Buddha statue is beheaded is that it protected the child (hyakkimaru) from being stolen the head by sacrificing itself, so that is why the child lost everything but the head (and the brain). It is kind of an old belief that this kind of statue which you have worshiped for a long time will sacrifice itself when your life is threatened
