EARLY ACCESS Vinland Saga Season 1 Episode 4 Reaction

EARLY ACCESS Vinland Saga Season 1 Episode 4 Reaction

Comments

Why is everyone getting their pantries in a twist over my comment? I’m not complaining about the obviously fictional material, I was just pointing out a historical misconception. (Didn’t know about the Bjorn part, thanks for that bit of info)

Canadian_Caesar

It's just their prediction.

Lukas Geissler

You must be really fun at parties. Just refer to the video and leave it at that, lol. PS: Bjorn is actually a nordic word for "bear". Nice little detail.

Lukas Geissler

just enjoy the awesome show XD Caeser

Zachary Provenzano

Fair enough, but things like cutting a ship mast in one swing is much more obvious compared to my point about berserkers.

Canadian_Caesar

Tbf, I don't think we should take ANYTHING Vinland Saga says is 100% accurate. Like, do you really think there WERE men who were strong enough to row half a viking ship by themselves, or use logs as hand-to-hand weapons?

John FD Lobrano

Once again, if you haven’t watched it yet, take a look at Lindybeige’s video on YouTube. The concept of a berserker being a rage filled barbarian with no regard for friend and foe alike comes more from poetic retellings of history than actual historical record afaik.

Canadian_Caesar

Attacking ones own conerades in a fit of rage, (or as some would call “going berserk”) has zero correlation with being a berserker, who were much closer to a personal champion in regards to their role in Germanic culture. I don’t know of any study regarding the mushrooms that actually had substantial evidence to support this theory, if you can link one I’ll read more into it (the few I have read aren’t supported well enough IMO.) Lastly, I know this is dramaticized, my problem isn’t in the delivery, but in the fact that people believe that the “berserker” trope is 100% historically accurate.

Canadian_Caesar

The anime/manga simply portrays them the same way they are portrayed in the legends that were passed on for years, if anything, they actually didn't over-dramatize it as much as the actual legends do (since in the end, he still got his ass beaten up very fast). The mushroom eating part isn't a "fanfare", it's a theory introduced by Samuel Ödmann a Swedish professor in 1784 and it is based on actual reports about the use of fly agaric among Siberian shamans. If a Berserker was just a German warrior who whore Bear skin, then why would there be reports about them attacking their own comrades ? how does wearing Bear skin mess with one's perception...?

Askeladd, son of Olaf, descendant of Artorius and wearer of weird armor lol. Very cool observation thorfinn, very cool 👀

Doofus

to get you to buy full length tier obviously :D

Yuion

I hope they re-watch when Askeladd offers Tors to lead them. You can see that was a serious offer to Askeladd and when he realizes Tors will not accept he has to fall back on it being a joke. As time goes on Askeladd becomes more and more of an interesting character. Also I think in the OP when Helga, Ylva, Thorfinn and Tors are standing next to the grave it is symbolically Tors grave. With Ylva and Helga crying over it and Thorfinn looking up at his father. Man, what a great show so far.

Connor Brown

askeladd is such an interesting character

Ira Ramirez

Wait... why did they not add Thorfinns scream?

Jaime Ruiz

Calling Askeladd Thorfinn’s new Father is a, BIT of a stretch. Askeladd may not like killing children, but that doesn’t mean he cares one iota about their well-being.

John FD Lobrano

I was hoping to see that visceral scream again darn

This was my interpretation of his character as well.

Champion Bescos

Askeladd is a liar, but not in the most blatant sense. I feel he was serious about having Thors take over, but when it fell flat he had to play it off as a joke. When Bjorn made his move he again just went with the flow of the situation.

Jake Thompson

I believe thorfinn is 6 in this episode

itzhectic

Thorfin is six yrs old i think
