He didn't realise, he likely wanted to go back to Dororo straight away and the reason he wasn't upset was because he likly just assumed Dororo was just further behind him. I don't know if I viewed this correctly but I always assumed that Dororo didn't leave him, she just dragged behind and becaude she was upset when she noticed that he didn't notice that she was dragging behind Dororo just didn't say anything, so he ended up accidentally leaving her.
