I think the big thing about the cooking test was that Menchi was not going to pass a single person there if they weren't already a master chef of sorts; which clearly no one was shown to be. It was basically an impossible test that not even someone like Hisoka could pass with all his intelligence. She even admitted it herself, taking the test personally and having her expectations too high. I think the reason Netero stepped in was because they didn't want the entire cast to fail, including prominent prodigies like the main four and Hisoka, just because of an examiner's personal feelings on the exam. Sure they're willing to accept that the majority will die, but not to fail everyone just based on not cooking pork the right way.

2017-08-31 20:23:46 +0000 UTCI think what they meant by an FMAB situation is how FMA 2003 took a completely different story route and had a completely different ending from the original story depicted in the manga. HxH 2011 was more just a reboot made when they had more content to adapt.
