The debt has 0% interest rate (source: the manga, ch 84). Probably one of the perks of being a hunter. BTW, that little dog toy and that stuffed bunny are the author representations of Yoshihiro Togashi (the manga's author) and Naoko Takeuchi (his wife) who is also famous for being the author of Sailor Moon.

Quoting Satotz (episode 20): "a person who has passed the exam will not be allowed to take it again." So what Gon did was indeed pretty risky since if he loses his hunter license for good he can't have a new one. However, as some people already mentioned, he didn't sell the license, he pawned it. Still risky, but not stupid.

This is one of my favorite episode in HxH. With all the rule of cool applied to side characters, this episode answers the itching question on Gon’s characters which is compelling. The reason Gon is considered dangerous by wing, zepile etc.. is because he does not differentiate right or wrong... plain curiosity... taking no sides. Props to author to use the transition episode to make it meaningful for main character development.

Guys, you're not allowed to do the Hunter's exam again once you pass it. This was explained in episode 21 I believe. And yes, they pawned the license so the price would be exactly the same when they buy it back.

I think there is a misunderstanding of what pawning is. Pawning is NOT selling an item. It is putting an item up as collateral on a loan. If you do not repay the loan, the pawnshop keeps the item. What some people do is pawn things with no intent on paying the loan back, but, that does not mean that is what Gon did. Gon probably does fully intend to repay the loan.

I don't know how it works in the HxH world, but as far as I know, when you pawn something, it's like borrowing money with your pawn as collateral. If Gon doesn't come back within a time frame the shop can probably sell it, but he definitely has time to come back and buy back his license (for interest, of course)

To Explain what Gon did, borrowing a comment from crunchyroll "And if anyone is wondering, Gon didn't sell his license, he borrowed 100mil from the bank, and they kept the license for insurance, in case he couldn't pay back the money within the month xD" Basically the Hunter License serves as insurance for the money borrowed, if he doesn't pay it back within a certain amount of time, he loses his license

Togashi had a nice trip to Egypt with his wife before the Yorknew City arc. He loves ancient stuffs! I would say that his trip to Egypt is where he got his inspiration from for this episode, many of the auction items, Phinks and the mummy character in the Phantom Troupe, as well as Meteor City.
