I think it's because the still moments aren't as still in the anime, there's a lack of dramatic lighting, and there are cut lines/translation differences. I always have this problem with anime adaptations to be quite honest :)

Just thought I'd point out that the messenger bird wasn't sent by Renfred (who isn't the priest either) but by someone called Adolf Stroud (he literally introduced himself in episode 10) and Renfred just took over the bird. Also, the magic in the show works by Old British rules so you might want to keep that in mind :3

I feel the exact same way and I think it's something about the pacing.

this is strange. I remember feeling overwhelmed by all the complex emotions when I read the manga, how they feel towards each other isn't just a pure love. There's some fear of not understanding the other person as well, along with a multitude of different emotions and developments. I don't understand completely why but the anime doesn't invoke that for me. Could be the quality of the production or just the fact that they focused on the magic aspect a lot, I don't really know. Any thoughts?

What is this... "Melodrama" talk you guys are producing suddenly? I don't understand. Is this one of those random dislikes you guys have? Keeping in mind that melodrama is: "a sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated characters and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions." That's basically "anime itself".

Man, you two have a much less sympathetic view of Elias than I do haha.

The music is so great in this series. The visiuals too. You can tell there's a lot of love put into it.

Yeah, when they said Renfred was the priest I was like, "...No! Come on! Take notes or something! D:"

Maybe you've realized it already but Renfred is the sorcerer and Simon is the priest, also the fire he had going was right at the beginning of the episode so i wouldn't say he never lit them and lied about that since he did.

They really are very suspicious of Elias. Just because he's a mostly black, skull faced demonic looking....well ok I can see why.
