2018-04-23 01:58:12 +0000 UTCon the question of why Zod was there, I thought it was fairly clear from Rickert's explanation of who Zod was; he's a mercenary/drifter who loves fighting/killing, his reaction towards Guts and Griffith's combat ability is joy that he finally found worthy opponents, or something like that.

2018-04-22 21:42:12 +0000 UTCto be fair Miura seems to vary much be a "by the seat of his pants" author, he's said in interviews that many of the major plot points weren't planned in advance, so I doubt he had the Golden age arc planned when he started Berserk with the Black Swordsman arc, which lasted like 30 or so chapters before switching over to tell this backstory, for all we know the Golden Age was intended to be much shorter and then grew into what it is now.

2018-04-22 21:06:22 +0000 UTCIn regards to Berserk's first episode, I'm one of the people, who absolutely hate, when the shows do stuff like this. Especially in Berserk, with all the name-dropping and such in ep. 1, it goes to the level of self-spoiling and it's really sad to see, when the creator doesn't trust his audience to stick with him, without giving a taste of the "good stuff" first.
