I totally agree. He let his love for her win out over his respect for her, basically. I think a lot of us have made that mistake in relationships.

I can only guess that it was to make the whole situation seem more ominous? For now I'll respect the mood the anime is trying to set, and wait until you finish the final episode to reveal that.

As someone who'd been giving Elias the benefit of the doubt, this episode showed me that much like Chise, I'd been giving him too much of that benefit of the doubt. Too much leeway. Too much room to fuck up. I thought of him as a kid, but I forgot that kids can be harmful and selfish. It also made me very worried for Chise. Though she's been making more connections, Elias was her lifeline for a long time. Without him, would she be okay? Was she in a place yet where she could survive this emotional separation? For that matter, could Elias?
