Overlord does need a couple episodes to get going. But it gets a lot better. And every season tops the last one. Season 1 is good, Season 2 is awesome and season 3 so far is fucking epic.

I never made it past episode 5 of Overlord. Too much exposition dump. Kill la Kill is a dumb series and it knows its dumb and that's why its so good. You can see the creators passion for animation in every frame and the music is just godlike. That's not to say that the characters aren't well written and likeable, they are.

To be fair, kill la kill is probably not bad, it just doesn't work for me. Never made it past I think episode 4 or 5. Plus overlord is one of my favorite shows, so that's what I am rooting for. Might give klk another try tho. Seems to be one of those "must watch once" shows

chewd they may love the over the top style from KLK like in TTGL but the amount of nudity and fanservice (the bros have mentioned multiple times they cant stand fanservice) is just too much. The lack of character depth as well as a really generic plot might not sit well for discussions either. just my opinion. Still a fun show to watch, but for a style like the bros im skeptical

If by "incredible and innovative" you mean over the top animation style (like TTGL), throw in the lack of character depth and one of the MOST generic plots as well as character developments (if any) out there, you have an overrated gag show that's a TTGL wanna be. It's not a bad show by any means, but the lack of a good plot together with the fact that the only real takeway from the show are the foodgasm scenes. Probably another reason you don't see a lot of people reacting to KLK is because that show is riding the line on what youtube would take problem with. There is a lot of fan service, I don't have a problem with that, but Youtube has definitely shown in the past that they do. A lot of channels probably just don't want to deal with the community strikes for one show.

I watch Anime for over 15 years but FLCL never got into my radar. Never got even mentioned as far as I know. Ill take a look at it, looks interesting. And not I do not dislike Kill La Kill because its sill, I dislike it because the story has no substance and the basic premise is generic af. I didnt like the MC (I despise that kind of character, which is why i i.e. hate Bakugo from MHA or (not only but especially) why I just cant watch/read Black Clover - The MC is torture in human form) I disliked Kill La Kill because most of it doesnt make any sense and I didnt like the ecchi part. Also the Artstyle was not my cup of tea. I have several reasons why I disliked Kill la Kill and when I first heard that this anime was recommended everywhere I was kinda shook. (I was not active in the anime community)

The story is a parody of Evangelion, the fights are obscenely beautifully animated and the show just oozes creativity, personality and charm. The characters didn't even need to be that deep but it went all out and made all the characters interesting. Its hyped up because it breaks the mold, its new, bold and exciting.

Before, one thing: I absolutely despise Mecha animes. Darlin in the Franxx was an exception for me and I already said the the first half of the anime was EXCEPTIONALLY good. The thing is that I dont have the time and I dont get any pleasure by analysing those stories so extremely deep. If the show demands me to know all this from the start ill pass. And im surely not a critic, I never said that. This is just how I felt the anime go down. It wasnt even the scene where (i dont know the names anymore) that girl keeps the mc away from the klaxogirl (goddamn the names, im sorry) that bugged me. Like, here are some comments I left, have fun with them. Darling in the FranXX is about human relationships rather than mech battles. For someone to expect one and get the other, I get the frustration. However there were plenty of indicators that this would be the case. What mech focused anime draws inspiration from an old chinese mythological bird, aka the Jian bird? You have the two characters that speak their minds about the bird, one saying it is incomplete, hence longing for a partner, the other saying that they are pitiful creatures, hence being resigned to the idea of flight altogether. You have the flower motifs that are meant to represent the fertility of these parasites, the same with the sexuality it presents. Sexuality that is not about having fun with the setting, but rather showing the audience that this series is about relationships. The name of the place the parasites inhabit also references Norse mythology as Mistletinn is the weapon made of mistletoe that killed the apparently immortal god Baldr. On the same thing, mistletoes is a prasitic plant… I could talk all day about the things this series does right versus the things they got slightly wrong. Sure, they could have taken less drastic decisions, but I can understand why these decisions were made in the first place. You could say the series is aimed at the current state of Japan as most people there decide to become another cog in the machine. You could say the series is aimed at the critics with all their nuanced and deliberate themes such as The Golden Bough and all the others I already mentioned. But either way, you can like, or dislike the series. That in itself is fine. Yet, if you would want to critically evaluate this series, without proper knowledge of the things it does or invokes, or the way the story was turned and twisted by the creators to elicit certain feelings… well… You aren’t much of a critic now are you?

There is zero ecchi in Kill la Kill. The word ecchi means "perverted" the nudity in KLK is an essential aspect of the combat. I can also guarantee you haven't seen more than one episode of KLK because all the fight scenes are utterly gorgeous

I love Madhouse, and voted for Overlord, but I do feel they dropped the ball on it in comparison to their usual standards. The animation is getting increasingly sloppy and the adaptation isn't even close to the quality of the LN. Although the latter is somewhat understandable given that the heavy exposition would be hard to adapt, in addition to the fact that it's clearly an intentional choice to massively accelerate the pacing.

Jonathan Yara - There was a show similar to the oversensualizing of enjoying food but it wasn't as over the top as Food Wars (in fact compared to ep1 it was PG and it still made me uncomfortable). I think its just the sexualizing of food is the issue for me. The first episode of Food Wars I felt like the characters would be fun and entertaining but the foodgasms are too much for me. I just hear about the story from my brother who doesn't mind the foodgasms at all lol. :) Dedotated Wam - Also. why do you say FW gets worse after s1? Does the story drop? The character development? Just curious even if I'm too squeamish to watch it at all XD As for KLK that's what I hear - that the nudity is all part of the bigger picture. Sounds like it's a lot of fun and I'm not really into the trailers for Darling in the Franxx just didn't look appealing to me. Overlord looks interesting but something about the style of KLK looks pretty rad.

It's a cooking anime with decent art. I fail to see the appeal. I've seen the first season though. Also the fanservice in food wars is of a purely sexual nature whereas in KLK it is quite literally in service of the "plot", isn't gross and the plot is pretty original, bar a few obvious Evangelion inspired bits
