When he told Meruem that his allies are probably already dead, I think he honestly believed they were. Their only job was to buy time, and I think he knew full well that none of them were strong enough to actually win, and would likely die caring out the mission.

2018-10-18 18:17:02 +0000 UTCCounter counter point. For the Japanese, Kanji rereadings and pronunciations are their versions of puns in English. Even if the correct word is expressed to the reader a Japanese would know the connection of the word and the “word play” of terms and phrases.

2018-10-18 17:44:22 +0000 UTCThat's not exactly the case. Normally kanji in manga are accompanied by the reading, so that kids who don't know the kanji yet can read it too. In this case Togashi wrote the kanji for malice but instead of writing the reading next to it to clarify the meaning for kids, he put the kanji of evolution next to it.
