They've probably looked it up by now but... "Daisuki" and "Aishiteru" are essentially synonyms. The Japanese aren't as free-wheeling about saying 'I love you' as many in the West are. "Aishiteru" is often seen as being a little bit more serious and romantic. In fact, "Suki" (the shortened form of "Daisuki") is actually a little more serious than Daisuki is too. They can both mean 'to like' 'to like very much' or even 'to love,' but "Suki" carries a slightly stronger connotation. "Suki" could also been seen as more of a 'base' emotion (base here meaning raw, not bad) whereas "Daisuki" could be more reciprocal. "Aishiteru" is like that too - though it's also worth pointing out that Aishiteru isn't actually used all that much outside of fiction. Like I said at the start though, "Aishiteru" is seen as more serious. You probably wouldn't use it on a first date (versus "Daisuki, which you might).
