I'm gonna guess they don't want to give more attention to one fandom before others, for example jojo fans also wanted second slot after HxH got one, which is understandable, if one long show gets a special treatment why not the other one. Also I agree with your earlier point, even if they decided to put that option into the poll, Ippo is nowhere near as popular/ mainstream as HxH to get it, also like I mentioned jojo would probably won that one, since the new anime is airing now, more people would want them to catch up and get to this season.

I'd definitely want this to take the other hxh slot when it's over since there are 126 episodes and 2 movies to go through. Seems like a long road with 1 a week. That being said, I doubt it would win a poll looking at the likes on this one.

Remember AOKI is KNUCKLE. Deku is like Ippo, totally, you'll like him. He is a genuine good guy (his name means Taking the First Step) with a golden heart but hiding true abilities and real motivation. The great strenght of the manga is characters, all of them fully developped and LOVED by the community, bad guys also. Sawamura, Mashiba, Sendô, Volg, Date... all of them becoming fan favorites. Takamura is designed by the author to be the inhumane guy, he is like All Might in the sense that he does superhuman feats, seemingly easily. He is the joker in a card game. Also the author is a HUGE boxing fan, acting as a second for boxer in real life. He knows about boxing a lot, and EVERYTHING you'll see in the show, including the most RIDICULOUS moves are just "manga made to look cooler" real move. Even the special moves. God I love this manga... Now I have to wait for EVERY DAMN COOL MOMENTS and there are tons of them... I wanna see Sendo already Also watch the special and movie, they are canon and AWESOME. God I wanna read the whole manga again for the 20th time !

I'm watching Ippo for the first time now, at first it was a slow burn for me, wasn't really feeling the hype it has behind it, but it grew on me. I still wouldn't say it's the best sports anime ever for me, but once I got more into the characters the quality went up a lot. Season 2 is a big step up too, but that's probably because of a personal prefence in the animation. Can't wait for the boys to see that in a couple of years haha

Ippo is his first name. In Japanese culture you almost never call people by their first name unless you're extremely intimate with them. The group that assaulted Ippo call him by his first name because they don't give a fuck.

I'm just gonna start notifying you now - after the first season there are also: Champion Road TV Special and Extra Round OVA. Both are completely canon and you really shouldn't miss it. I know, it's gonna be a year and half from now, but i need to make sure you will experience HnI's full glory :P

As far as i know "ippo" means step. "Hajime" means beginning or something like that. So i think "Hajime no Ippo" means something like "Ippos beginnings" but i feel like they could also be translated to "The First Step" which is the title of the episode. (Take this with a grain of salt as i dont actually know any japanese)
