um, this was already revealed in the anime in season 3 but shigaraki's name isnt originally shigaraki, so his father doesnt have that name.

One thing that might not have come across due to the culture barrier. Shigaraki's dad's thing of co-homing with his in-law parents is not some weird "insular" thing in Japan. In fact, its something a lot of older parents ask for as they want companionship with their family in their elder years. Typically its the younger generation that balks due to wanting independence from their family/in-laws. The fact that Shigaraki actually built a home for his in-laws would be considered remarkably admirable and family-oriented in Japan, its just conflicting from an audience PoV cause we know it stems from his issues with family abandonment

@jacab the manga was more visually graphic and since everything was in black and white the graphic along with the intensity seemed just a bit more explicit, definitely worth checking out but the anime seemed pleasing as well mostly bc i get to hear the character’s voice if you ever wanna check it out just search for mha manga chapter 234 panels just dont go any further than that its without spoiler and its really visually pleasing

I do wonder what it would've been like to have a hero with such a dark Quirk.
The dog part really got to me, but then his mom being such a mom right until the end sent me over the edge.

I guess they wanted to keep it somewhat authentic and true to the source material, but at the same time censor it JUST ENOUGH so the powers that be are content. Essentially, a compromise. I'm anime only, so it doesn't bug me too much, as long as the impact is there. Not as much impact probably, but it's still there, and the meaning does get across at least.

So if I recall, the family crumbling in the manga was way more bloody and visceral, so they censored it here. Oddly enough they left the pools of blood and body parts, despite it looking like they just turned to dust. I guess it was later in life that his Decay actually just dusted people.
