In the real world, a kid like this might not have any reason to act out, but for storytelling it's a challenge to make someone this obnoxious and then turn it around into sympathy. Hiro's issue is that he has no power/agency and this behavior is the only way he can "win" against someone. Similarly, Tohru who at no point gets annoyed is probably the most frustrating target, while Kyos (and your own) reaction is exactly what he's looking for.

2021-11-13 21:03:20 +0000 UTCGreat discussion and bringing up the complicity of the Sohma adults to Akito’s abuse. The more you watch the more you see how toxic and cult-y the Sohma clan is. The family head can beat a child without repercussions (“he couldn’t blame Akito”). None of the Sohmas will report the abuse (Shigure and Hatori knew about Kisa and Yuki but didn’t take action). And the family is so big that any abuse within will almost never be seen outside the Sohma family (Sohmas have their own hospital/doctors, are definitely wealthy enough to bribe outside government actors, family runs on a patronage/spoils system).

Remember that the Soma's family is quite toxic and that not everyone is healthy and realizing things are wrong. It takes time and other perspective. One thing I love about Hiro is the fact that because he's no idealizing Tohru like the most of them, he will ask the right questions that will help her in the end.

No spoilers of course, just some points you might not have noticed: 1) The Somas are not related. They are just the families with the zodiac members grouping together. 2) Hiro loves Kisa romantically. 3) The show is a slow burn, it takes its time to build the characters and the world. 4) Yes, Akito will take over the next two seasons, especially the final. Brace yourself for horrible things. There are several things about the zodiacs that the anime will reveal, some of them have been hinted.
