I think she definitely, desperately, wanted Yusuke NOT to turn out like Toguro. And yet, she says that Toguro's fate was written in ugly black letters across his soul (metal af), and she could see it, even then. While Yusuke reminds her of Toguro, I think she can see his soul is more pure than Toguro's ever was. Unselfish. He's a good boy T_T

2021-12-23 20:28:01 +0000 UTCThat kind of stylistic intent behind the animation for important/emotional episodes is what makes both this series, and Studio Pierrot as a whole, amazing. Idk if you remember or not, but they did a similar thing during Hiei’s first use of Dragon of the darkness flame, where the drawings got really crude and obscure and almost ‘uglyish’ looking for some frames to better convey the tension and atmosphere of the setting. That kind of stuff is what studio Pierrot is goated at and there will be plenty more episodes like this to come, thankfully
