Crazy, mushoku tensei won anime of the year by many metrics, so many people love it and praise it. But theres this select group of people that despise it so much anyone that dares to like it gets labeled a social reject, pedophile, etc. Has there ever been an anime series with this big of a vocal minority hate group?

My counter-argument is that the show tries to have its cake and eat it too. They are 100% reveling in the skeevy fanservice while at the same time throwing an aside wink and saying "oh but remember, this isn't cool". And also, it's somewhat of a moot point that the MC stops being a pedophile if only because the primary target of his affections is no longer a child.

Glad to see Mushoku Tensei show up and do so well in the poll. I definitely understand why many people find it hard to watch, but having read the web novel to completion I can confidently say that I believe the Bros will really get into this show. For some of the folks who have trouble with how certain scenes are portrayed, all I can say is that the series is from Rudeus' POV in a world that wouldn't really punish him for much of the stuff a general audience would have trouble with anyway. These scenes aren't taken as seriously because the MC himself doesn't, at least at first. You as the audience still know it's wrong, the series doesn't try to tell you it is because it shouldn't have to. The MC is someone who now lives in a world that would easily allow him to become much worse than he starts as, yet he ends the series a much better man despite this. It kind of reminds me of Kaiki's philosophy of the "fake" being better than the real deal simply due to the fake putting in the effort to be what they aren't. You aren't supposed to like Rudeus at the beginning, and many don't ever come to like him; but I still believe a character can be hated while also being well crafted. Even the side characters are heavily flawed, Paul being a good example, but they still have their character arcs and can be very likable. Not trying to argue or dismiss someone else's issues with the series, just trying to add another POV.

Honestly I didn't like MT Even after I finished it, maybe it had to do with me being a girl, maybe it's the almost constant sexualization of young kids, and maybe it's because the main character's father cheated on his mother and the main character decided to let the *spoiler* maid Stay and let her have the baby. I understand it's a AU that is set in a different time and culture from us, but never had I ever seen that an main character would be on the side of a cheater, who, apparently, was also a renowned rapist as well :)

Well this is about what I expected from the comments section. I just hope someone the bros trust warn them in advance about the uncomfortable content in MT. I see some people saying that they can probably stomach it given that they were able to stomach the "scenes" in Monogatari and while I can see where that sentiment is coming from, I'm not very confident their MT experience will go the same way... but we'll see. Moving on, I personally hope we see 86 in another poll soon, maybe as a Vivy replacement?

Woke? No. People are making valid arguements. Rudy is a 40+ y/o man in a child's body whose main goal at this ppint is to have sex with a 15 y/o. He even mentions it in his 'dying' breath. It is uncomfortable. And no the show does not make it that clear that we should be uncomfortable with it when it's played for laughs. If they wanted us to dislike Rudy they could of done ANYTHING else eith his character... anything. But the author chose this. Yes I know he develops, but 22 episodes in and still nothing has changed

I agree. I could not recommend this show to anyone irl, even other anime fans. Especially not SOS. Yes uncomfortable scenes with minors occur in other anime, but never even close to this degree or the way it is porely handled. Rudy's pedophila isn't played off an offcolor joke or gag. It is part of his character and ruins what could otherwise be serious scenes. Also the writing almost glorifies it with having sex with a minor being Rudy's main goal for mich of the story

I agree, the main character comes off as creepy all the time, I'm always disappointed in him when he has a chance to prove he's grown past it and still ends up being a wierdo. Also I dont think you're supposed to like the dad for what he did lol, he made a bad decision there. Despite these things, by the end of part 2 I found that I enjoy this series to a similar level as I do Re Zero, one of my all time favorites

I personally loved Mushoku Tensei for its world building and beautiful animation, as well as delving into the mindset of a depressed person trying to recover. The over sexualization of a lot of scenes and the MC's high key pedophilia made it really hard for me to watch tho, and almost made me drop it. I understand that characterizing the main character so that we can see him in a better light later, and showing how sexual some scenes are to emphasizes the drama that it causes is important, but I didn't think it needed to be focused on THAT much. It seems like a cheap way to grab attention from new viewers to me.

So about MT. I can see why some people would like it; amazing animation and a isekai. Kinda what people crave. For some reason, the majority of isekai that get an anime are trashy or simply ok. I don’t understand why, I’ve read many great isekai. Anyway this one is not trash, but in no way the best I’ve seen. I just can’t bring myself to like the main characters perverted ways. I’m not against it; Negima! Is one of my favorite manga. Re:Monster has questionable morals but I still enjoy it. Rudy sometimes comes off as creepy to me. And I do not like what the dad did at all. Also before the anime came out, on the site I read manga the rating was only around 8.6. It rose after the anime came out. However I wonder why the really popular isekai manga on these sites with rankings of 9.0 and higher, never get anime? It makes me sad that they think something won’t sell or be popular if it isn’t some ecchi harem. Not talking about MT, just in general.

Aahh this is a hard one. I did actually like watching MT. I even read the manga for a bit cause I wanted to know what would happen next. But... I'm not sure if I would want to see their reactions to it. I'm sure they could and would appreciate the world building and other things that make this show great. But seeing their reactions to all those gross moments in the show is not a reaction that I want to see. It is going to make them so uncomfortable! As someone who has watched MT, I feel like the animation is great, world building is entertaining, but the protagonist is unforgivably bad. The show doesn’t treat his perverted nature as a negative trait to be worked on, it’s treated as a quirky little character trait for comedy. I see a lot of “oh you don’t understand the nuances” in this comment section, and if anyone wants to tell me about how uneducated I am then fine, but please leave an actual example of the show suggesting that Rudy needs to be less perverted, and don’t just say “you dumb HA I win argument”.

Lets hope they get told about the couple uncomfortable moments and that they can act mature enough about it not to drop it before the real development starts taking place. People got mad at the MC for doing a couple things, which is understandable, but it works out for his development starting out as a terrible person and growing out of it.
