EARLY ACCESS Demon Slayer Season 1 Episode 17 Reaction

It was confirmed by the author in the manga that they don't summon the elements (water, electricity etc) but they are visible to everyone. It's like, they are so skilled in the sword form they use that this illusion appears (this also explains why the water looks so stylized). The only reason we don't see it with the other minor hunters is because they are not skilled enough to make it happen.

i don't think the abilities actually have a elemental effects i.e (they don't summon water or lightning; its just a visual representation of their sword forms.

even if there is no "real magic" with the elemental breathing forms, what it does is so over the top that it basically is magic anyway

it’s unfortunate that this is extremely inconsistent with the actual fights and the elements damage the enemies and surroundings at times making this a moot point

even though it's technically not actually magic it sure acts like it. When tanjiro slammed down his sword to do his first waterfall basin attack. The waves hurt the swamp demon.

Okay but there are two things that I feel should be clarified to Jacob and Caleb: 1) The demon slayers and breathing forms are NOT magic. They're sword styles that take on the properties of certain elements such as water or lightning. Demon Slayers whose sword techniques are particularly potent and well mastered will have the illusion of said element. Zenitsu can't shoot lightning. He's just so fast that he moves and damages his surroundings like lightning. 2) There's a translation error in this episode. There are 6 forms of thunder breathing, not 3.

This was such a great reaction! Poor Caleb though. I really like the way Zenitsu is portrayed! His low self-esteem and fear prevents him from believing he can fight. That's why his body's developed this defense mechanism in situations where he's close to death where it makes him unconscious. It's not explicitly stated but his ears are so powerful that they're able to detect his surroundings in reality and project them into his dreams. That's what that one comment he made about being able to hear conversations while sleeping meant. However, the one doing the fighting is still him. He IS strong. Yet he wakes up believing that none of it happened; that he's only strong in his dream. As a result, he never gets a chance to truly face his fears, which makes his screaming and running even worse. I like how it's not just a gimmick but a vital part of his character. I think a lot of other shows wouldn't have gone to such lengths to explain something that seems so silly but has shaped him as a person so thoroughly.

Lol. This reaction was so great. xD I think that it was pretty heavily implied that Zenitsus master was not his biological grandfather. Especially when the other student told him not to call him gramps in such a familiar manner. Even if he despised Zenitsu for being weak, I dont think he would have said that if Zenitsu was biologically related to the master. Plus, in Japan it seems like it is fairly common to call someone who is older and you care about "gramps" (granted that is from loads of anime and manga, not from actual knowledge since I have not been there)
