GOD that's right, the dub came out. Easy to forget about Netflix jail series like this... All I know about the dub is that Lara Jill Miller voices Haru and that's pretty fucking cool.

First off it's not a furry show in the way you seem to think it is. Yes it has anthropomorphized characters but it uses that in a similar way to animal farm and I've never heard animal farm described as furry. Now the reason it's good is because of how well it fleshes out it's cast and uses things like animal instinct and their standing in the animal kingdom to reflect real life things we experience as humans, all that plus Studio Orange CG, a killer ost and thoroughly engaging dialogue make it worth the time of most anime fans.

In my case, I don't really get angry at comparisons, I just want to get people to watch the shows with the right expectations. I love Zootopia, but the society it shows is very clearly a human one. Like it very clearly equates predator discrimination with real-life discrimination of other races. But if you look at Beastars with a similar lens, the setting of the show starts having pretty ugly implications if you try doing a one for one comparison between the show's society and our society. Like how the discrimination against carnivores has legitimate reasons to exist, instead of simply prejudice. Or how society looks down on certain types of romantic relationships for, again, actual legitimate reasons. That's why I feel like people object to comparing Beastars to Zootopia. They seem to share a similar concept, but where they go with that concept are completely different. It's like saying Hunter X Hunter is similar to Dragon Ball Z because they're both battle shounen series.

The show is well made in terms of backgrounds, sound design, OST, etc. (the 3D can understandably be a turn-off, but at least one 3D show is worth a shot). It also tells a touching story with at least decently nuanced characters, and the fact that just the first episode sparked a 45 minute discussion speaks for itself.

Doesn't make them similar, there are many inspirations that go into a work of art, George RR Martin was inspired by Lord of the rings, but that doesn't mean that Game Of Thrones provides the same experience as Lord of the rings. Sure they share some tropes and even an idea or two if you nitpick, but when the similarities that exist are infinitely outweighed by the differences, It's too stupid to keeping harping "well they share a concept" or "this was inspired by that" instead of talking about what's great about the story. Same with this, people like you who keep making reductive comparisons cuz they think it makes them sound smart are the reason for the spread of misconceptions.

Itagaki has specifically credited the old Disney movies she grew up with, as well as Zootopia and Edward Scissorhands as influences on her work. I know certain fans are uncomfortable with the Zootopia comparison, but when the author makes the comparison herself, it's a bit silly to continue getting angry over it.

First chapter of the manga debuted several months after Zootopia came out in Japan. Itagaki was clearly inspired by the movie. Which is fine. That's how art works. It doesn't take anything away from Beastars or Itagaki, or how great this manga (and anime) is.
