EARLY ACCESS Legend of the Galactic Heroes Episode 33 Reaction

It is definitely rare to have absolute rulers have successful heirs down the generations. The closest thing I think could come close to a long succession of competent and successful absolute rulers would be the period of Roman History known as The Five Good Emperors, a time where everything was pretty much awesome for the Roman Empire. Led by Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antonius Pius, and Marcus Aurelius (with his adopted brother Lucius Verus). Some would say the problem started when Marcus Aurelius made a grave error in naming his biological son as his successor rather than do what his predecessors did and 'adopted' people who weren't family.

I remember this episode mainly for Yang's monologue on governance. Governing is very effective under autocratic rule provided that 1 man is brilliant and passes good policies and reforms. But like most empires/ dynasties, the regime starts to decline from the 4th generation onwards. Democratic rule with separation of powers is safer, but if there is too many bureaucratic layers and each party is self-serving before nation, governing becomes deadlocked, the citizens lose faith in their representatives and democracy eventually dies. The ideal government structure will be to stave off corruption, require participation of patriotic individuals in politics and a lean but efficient administration system. Unfortunately, that is still a political experiment in the works for nations worldwide today.
