I really reccomend the Bros check this arc out in the manga. Shimabukuro is one of my favorite opponents and his fight with Ippo is in my top fights. The anime sadly cut out quite a lot, which is disappointing.

2020-11-08 18:15:38 +0000 UTCHajime no Ippo is normally VERY good at adapting the manga. This is one of the few fights where they cut something major out. In the manga, Shimabukuro visited Ippo's mom before the match and through her formed his image of Ippo as a fisherman just like him. It was also great to see Ippo's mom befriending and impressing one of his opponents, like she did with Volg after their match.
