this really puts into perspective why subaru acts like he does and how over the top he is
he does not want people to drop him after his childhood

As many people said this hit way to close to home with all the depression and suicidal undertones. Im sure it hit home for ALLOT of people.

This episode reminds us why we love re zero so much. Its brilliant dialogue and unparalleled writing is on another level. Glad you guys enjoy this episode as much as we did.

It's not a ""sPoILeR"". Just an analysis of Re:Zero's story structure. Emotional epiphanies compound into virtues that lead to his future heroism. That's the entire modus operandi of this series. All I'm saying is, in the grand scheme of anime in general we might not get something like this, but Re:Zero is able to cement how important things like this are for its character narrative, over and over again in ever arc since the first one.
I just don't remember them saying anything like this back when the show decided to spend an entire episode letting the MC shit-talk himself.
Also, if you're going to publicize your entertainment, it's your own fault if you get spoiled. I'm not here to do it, but I think complaining about it is kinda stupid, and they don't need their fans getting riled up and playing defense for them.
They're clearly the smartest bois.

This episode was very much need and should have been necessary. We need to learn about subaru's past and he needs a spark to start his development. This was greatly impactful for subaru and his change of mind set. But like the others said they haven't gotten to that point to look back on this and say what you said. They haven't caught up to where we are to say that yet.

Great reaction and I love the discussion and nuance that you guys have about each episode. It gives another layer to the meaning of things even if it's probably far off or sport on.

Um, i think that's what they just discussed and also let them theorize and interpret themselves. Assuming that you already are caught up with the series, I don't think they need an explanation just yet.

Lovely reaction guys! As always!
However, I need to disagree completely with you assumption that this episode might've technically not been necessary.
I don't mean to call you out, but that's soooo far from the truth.
Subaru's development from here on out, and a lot of what he does to help other people from now on hinged almost entirely on the lessons he learned from his parents here.
That's why it's so special!

In Japan, when you go out from home, someone who stays home said "Itterassyai", you must respond say "Ittekimasu".
But Subaru didn't when he left home before transported to another world, so he really regrets that. But this time he finally did it. yay.
