It would have been a curb stomp with or without the barrier if Rimiru wasn't focused on escape. He stands zero chance against Hinata at this point in the story.

Oh, one more thing about Hakurou being more about Arts than raw magicules count power. Him being the grandchild of a human otherworlder might have something to do with why Hakurou's magicules count is lower than the other fighter Kijins. Just a guess. There hasn't been any statement about this.

Gazel is only confirmed to be 300+, and to have been "young" when he met Hakurou. And it's from the date of his apprenticeship under Hakurou, aka 300 years ago, that we know that Gazel is that age.
The only other reference to Gazel's age in the series worthy of mention is that he was already adult and king 100 years ago when Vesta was a kid.
As for Hakurou, that is indeed how he is. As an Ogre he was able to cut through/bypass Rimuru's multilayered barrier and cut his arm. That is not due to raw power, but rather to sheer control of aura/ki with his Arts.
We however do not know whether Hakurou's magicules count used to be higher centuries ago or not. He never went through the process of evolving, so maybe his count wasn't enough to become a Kijin, but just below.
If his count didn't go down, then we don't know how he managed to live this long. Even other characters in the series who know about Hakurou's situation don't understand how he did it.
I won't name who (due to spoiler reasons), but there is someone who used to know Hakurou when he was young and who is also still alive. That someone is of a species that has enough longevity to live this long. When that someone will meet Hakurou in the future events of this series (probably season 3 of the anime), that someone will be surprised that Hakurou is still alive because they expected him to have died of old age centuries ago.
Considering this, I guess that Hakurou probably didn't have a super high magicules count back then, since if he had then that someone would've expected him to live that long, I guess.
All in all, I find this mystery quite interesting and I don't mind it not being explained concretely in the series.
In the end, it's just as likely that Hakurou might simply be an outlier, a special case. Maybe he gained a longevity trait from his otherworlder grandfather even though said grandfather didn't have that. After all, the ways the powers of otherworlders function are usually unique or at least vary a lot from one to another. So it wouldn't be a stretch if the grandkid(hakurou) of an otherworlder someone got a weird power or trait (longevity in this case).

I was going over back episode comments since I just joined the Patreon but isn't Gazel already 500 years old? And I thought Hakurou's abilities were mostly Arts vs. Skills or Magic based. Arts are based on one's aura or qi, which anyone, even humans, can develop on their own, without any special Skills or Magic abilities.

lol Hinata in the novels was such a crazy introduction and I knew they would skip those scenes/details in the anime.

That scene with Rimuru seeing the bodies of the dead hurts more when you realize that Rimuru personally named every single one of those Goblins.

I can probably say this safely now, but Hinata could've beaten Rimuru without the barrier. Pretty sure it was mentioned in the light novel, but I could be misremembering.

Speaking of Hakurou being old and more vulnerable without the power of his magicules, he's extremely old. Far older than the lifespan of an ogre. Ogres in that world actually have the same lifespan as humans. When we meet Hakurou, he is already close to 400 years old. He was THE sword demon/saint of the forest 300 years old already when he trained a young Gazelle Dwargon (as stated in season 1).
The mention of it was skipped in the adaptation for season 1, but his grandfather is actually a human samurai otherworlder who saved the ogre village from a dragon and settled there around 400-500 years before Rimuru's reincarnation. That samurai otherworlder is the reason why the ogres all have a Japanese style now.
Hakurou has been the Sword Saint and spiritual teacher in the ways of the sword for the ogre village for over 300 years, outliving all of them. His otherworlder grandfather also had a normal human lifespan, so that's not the reason for Hakurou's longevity.
The only reason that can be found in the story for his longevity is a mix of sheer willpower and his high magicules count. In other words, he became a majin as an Ogre without evolving (thus only through magical swordsmanship) even though that species normally only manages to do that once they evolve.
