If you like the painting effect they did for the ED, the animation technique is called "paint on glass" where every frame is a painting on glass. It's used in the first ED, some scenes through the series, and used for animated works like "The Old Man and the Sea" and "Loving Vincent". Highly recommend if you'd like to stare at it more :)
