2022-08-04 02:31:26 +0000 UTCChapter Black is when Togashi starts to achieve Hunter x Hunter level storytelling and fight quality (and YYH was already extremely good at both already anyway!) and this is easily one of my favorite episodes from the arc too. Kurama absolutely hates that he had to do that, but he's 100% committed and it was the correct decision even though it was painful and disturbing. I feel like Sensui is kind of trying to prove his thesis even to his enemies - like, if you were really "good people", how can you justify killing this kid? Which I think makes a ton of sense with his very black and white worldview, and the way that having to engage with a morally gray world broke him personally. But not everybody is like him. Some people are able to handle that gray space, and that doesn't make them monsters or evil. The big tragedy of Sensui's life really feels like it's just that he can't handle living in a morally gray world, and that's not even his fault originally, but the awful result of aspects of his personality that were there from a very young age leaving him unprepared for when the real world came crashing down. He's the perfect follow-up villain after Toguro, too, with the massive contrast in their motives, methods, and their approach toward combat and conflict.

2022-07-29 13:03:33 +0000 UTCThis is such a great episode in loved the Dark Tournament it is the Tournament arc but Chapter Black is just so good the way the poor kid just froze up when he realized his upcoming fate and the shot of kuramas face when you hear the sound of his little body hitting the floor is like damn good shit

2022-07-29 09:13:43 +0000 UTCAs dark as this episode was, I love it so much. Kurama has always been the kinder gentler one of the group, learning from so many years as a bad demon. Sensui set it up so that he won either way, either the kid wins and the tunnel opens up, or the kid dies and with it being Kurama, he forced him back into being the monster he used to be, just to get the job done. I think what bothers Kurama most is he had made all this progress, but now he wonders if he's still that monster because he still didn't hesitate to make the bad choice.

As far as Koenma being a demon thats a good one, but not as good as when ya'll thought Sensui was Sakyo and Kairen fused together.
