The static has actually been in the show since Episode 2. Just in more subtle manners.

2022-09-04 22:26:33 +0000 UTCDetails...this show is so full of little details that you can miss on the first watch but are impactful once you notice them. In this episode we get Kaia's "return" as one of the voices of the legion. If you got back the when we are first introduced to the 86 in EP1 we see Kaia watering a bunch if potted flowers, then during the discussion between Shin and Lena we see the same flowers that are now dead/dying since Kaia is no longer there to water them. Non of the 86 do this in her place. You'll also notice it was Theo who specifically called out Kaia's name when we her her voice during the battle. This show tries to use all possible senses to "show"not tell their story. For instance we hear the "static" when Lena first hears it, and we question what it is just she does. Then the static becomes more distinct to use and we can hear the voices of the dead 86.
