i've been watching a german yt reactor called storieswithstyle and he has watching frieren and blowing my mind with all of the hidden in plain sight meanings of all the german names. for example, he busted a gut laughing when the demon Lord Lugner showed up bc his name Lugner means Liar. there's so many LAYERS of meaning in this show. truly a masterpiece of storytelling

Himmel took notice of how he could be that human to frieren. Potentially pushing the wedge in more for him to sacrifice not officially telling her how he feels for her. If you really love someone you wouldn't want them to be tied down by your death, especially with frieren living even longer than dwarves

2024-02-08 18:40:03 +0000 UTCI really love that conversation at the end with Old Man Voll because it can be interpreted in a number of ways. I think the way I like to think about it is that he's purposefully playing ignorant so he has reason to live longer. He's stayed alive for this long so that he could see the peace after the Demon King, which is what his wife wanted. And I think he was also waiting around for Frieren to return because chances were she said she would (this is just a guess, though). Now that both have been achieved, he doesn't have a reason to keep living. So, he's telling Frieren here that he's still waiting (and POSSIBLY implying that he'll wait until she comes back from Ende again with "news of the Demon King's defeat"). Either way, that's why Frieren didn't correct him.
