The idea of doing things like that intentionally is present all over the show, which is great for when it pays off near the end of the season. A similar example is the sleepwalking concubine early in the show that flubbed her dance and acted reserved on purpose so that she could be married off to person she actually wanted to be with.

2024-05-17 16:31:23 +0000 UTCWe already encountered the "lowering the value" situation before when Maomao told Gyokuyou about the courtesan who wanted to be bought by someone who didn't have enough money and deviced a plan to get fake offers in, only to make them fall through so she could be then bought at a lower price by her lover. But that's not the case. There's plenty of other ways to get a courtesan's value down.
