By the way, i just figured out why the melon was flopping. Most of the vegetables, like the cabbages from s1 are actually alive and mobile. This is just normal in this world. Like some seafood it is custom to serve it still mostly alive to guarantee freshness for the right price.

He died 2 times in season 2 : Broken neck from falling from a tree after a lizard fell on him and digested by the boss slime. He died 1 time in the movie after been merged with Silvia. So he died 4 times, or 5 times if we include the first death in the original world.
