Conflict is not what this show is about. At least not at this point. Were still deep in the setup phase. Season 1 is entirely setup and season 2 and 3 are mostly setup. Season 4 is where the "conflict" will really start as it's where the main bulk of the show starts. Obviously it being setup doesn't mean it's bad. Bookworm part 1 and 2 are still masterpieces but they don't compare to the level the later parts are at. As you've realized this is a very long series with 33 volumes split into 5 parts. Part 1 is 3 volumes, part 2 is 4, part 3 is 5, part 4 is 9 and part 5 is 12. The anime has only adapted part 1 and 2. With a series this long you'll have to accept that it's not very fast paced.
