EARLY ACCESS Bojack Horseman Season 6 Episode 15 Reaction

EARLY ACCESS Bojack Horseman Season 6 Episode 15 Reaction

Comments

[SPOILER WARNING FOR BOJACK] I loved the reaction bros, just like always! Caleb's vocal analysis and Jacob's emotions take me right back to the first time I saw this pyschological terrordome of an episode. I believe my favorite thing about this episode, and the show itself, is its ability to break your heart piece by piece over the death of a character- you don't even necessarily like, as BoJack at this point, is at his hardest to root for and most uncomfortable to empathize with. Yet, the brutal portayal of his demise still tears us apart. BoJack makes you think about the kinds of images and scenes your brain would generate for YOU in your final moments. What kind of world would you leave behind had you vanished tonight? What act would you perform if you were tasked with condensing your entire reason to exist into a quick onstage performance? Anyone that has grappled with the decision to take their own life can fully empathize with these questions even without specifically asking them. BoJack was drowning, as many do, but the only way a person that is drowning can be saved is if they aren't drowning alone. The most painful thing about this episode is realizing just how alone BoJack is, how far away Diane is when then the call was made, and how help is not coming for him. Its all too much, man!

That episode is my favorite episode of R&M season 4, but I have to say that stings quite a bit, this episode deserves to much more.

There was a documentary I saw once about attempts to cut down on the number of people using the Golden Gate Bridge as their suicide locale, and it specifically delved into that: the people who survived their jumps off of the bridge were pretty much unanimous in talking about their regrets as they fell. I always wondered if the writing team for this episode had seen that same documentary.

SK Elkins

Oh! Okay, that explains a lot. A friend and I differed rather dramatically on how we felt about the next episode, and the fact that I always watch to the "Boxer vs Raptor" card, while he always just let it play through, probably had a lot to do with that.

SK Elkins

You guys really put it well when you say the episode asks you of youve thought about your own death- ive yet to see an episode of television that captures this fear of death, the inevitability of it, and concept of someone fully disappearing and how terrifying that is in this way. Not to mention how it protrays secrtariats suicide. Did you know thats an incredibly common feeling that people who try to commit suicide off a bridge feel? The ones who live say that when theyre falling they realize how fixable their lifes problems are, compared to the infinite nothingness of death. Its all beautifully put together, and really captures the absurd yet familiar vibe that dreams give you at the same time

Wow so many spoilers in the comments today. Hope no one reads them before watching the episode!

Brad Johnson

It depends if the show is episodic or not- most episodes of Rick and Morty can be watched and enjoyed as stand alone (ditto most adult animated shows, but continuity can vary), whereas BoJack is more serialized and best watched fully in episode order

idk i think people determining the winner should probably watch the shows? feels like that should be part of their job

Anait

I also wonder if the show's willingness to call out the shenanigans within their own industry might have cost them a few votes. Then again, maybe that's just the Bojack in me coming out.

James Rogers

It's been fun rewatching the series with you and it's sad it's coming to an end. I'm sure you will be satisfied by the last episode as well.

crypto rubberman

I was subbed to you guys just for this show, been here since yyh reactions. Kinda feels like the end for me as well. Lol one last journey

Ruben Lopez

While I agree that it should have gotten the Emmy, I understand why it didn’t- R&M has/had a larger audience, plus a lot of what is great about this episode would probably only be appreciated by those who have watched the whole series, or most of it at least, and I’m not sure that the people determining Emmy winners can be expected to have done that unfortunately

Ariel Causey

What's more emotionally devastating? This episode ... or this episode losing the Emmy to Rick and Morty's Vat of Acid?

James Rogers

Words cannot describe how sick I felt the first time I watched this episode. What a goddamn masterpiece. Also, a little something I thought was interesting, if you let the "Next Episode" timer on Netflix bring you to the last episode, you never hear the heart rate monitor start up again. You just hear the flat line.

Malakai

17 minutes into the episode is when we learn bojack is in the pool and line 17 in the poem the view from halfway down is when it turns to panic and regret

I won’t even try to go into every callback or all of the symbolism in this episode, but if you guys are interested in a deeper dive, you should check out Johnny2cellos videos- not just for this episode, but pretty much everything BoJack. Great reaction- I remember I was totally reacting like Jacob on my first watch

Ariel Causey

Oh boy this is it

Jazzy

one of my favorite episodes in television history fr
