It's also by Ufotable and it takes place in the same world as Fate (though very few characters are in both). For example, the red haired woman seen at the end of this movie is one of the main characters of Kara no Kyoukai and she's the one who made the magic doll body that Shirou now has.

2023-05-01 21:41:06 +0000 UTCThe Kara no Kyoukai movies are (mostly) faithful adaptations of the novels they come from and require no "prerequisite" knowledge going in. In fact, KnK was one of the earliest works written in the wider universe where it belongs, and is where key concepts such as the Root, magecraft, mystic eyes, and such are first explored.

I was almost sure Shiro's alive at the end there, but I was lacking Fate knowledge as to HOW, exactly, and the anime explains nothing, which is fair, given how short it is in comparison to UBW adaptation. (or is it? it's true it's just three movies, but fairly long ones, so maybe I'm wrong, will check.)

2023-05-01 10:27:40 +0000 UTC- Illya performed an imperfect rendition of the Third Magic (Heaven's Feel) to save Shirou's soul at the end. If it was perfect, Illya would have managed to create a "satisfactory" container for his soul as well, eliminating the need to create a doll. - Shirou's body was still completely destroyed by the underground cavern collapsing on top of him, so that's why he needed a new body. - Illya was originally gonna have her own route, but due to time constraints, it was scrapped and parts of it were integrated into Heaven's Feel. You can say Heaven's Feel is as much of an Illya route as it is a Sakura route, but honestly, it really is just the route that focuses on Shirou, Sakura, Rin, and Illya's resolution as Masters, together with the unveiling of the true nature of the Grail. - Sad as it may be, the sequel to this isn't the cooking anime. *However*, if ufotable does ever decide to adapt the actual sequel to Fate/stay night, I would really love to see your reactions and discussions to that as well. Let's just say the sequel may provide a proper and satisfying conclusion to the story... but not without the usual twists of Fate along the way. - Speaking of things you may want to watch after this, I will echo others in the comment section and recommend "Kara no Kyoukai." It does a deep dive into concepts such as the Root which you will have lots to discuss about.

2023-05-01 07:39:57 +0000 UTCYou can easily see "Garden of Sinners" (Kara no Kyoukai) as a qtand alone movie series. Despite sharing the same universe, they have nothing to do with the Fate universe. I'll be honest in that it can be a little hard/strange to understand because of how the story is told, but it is voluntary and once you reach the end everything makes sense.

Because I'm not sure I'll understand Kara no Kyokai, though I'd love to watch it if it's available somewhere someday. But I'm not an indepth Nasuverse expert or anything. Though just recently I've watched Fate Extra Last Encore on Netflix and understood it mostly (I think), some time ago I watched Fate Apocrypha and also it was mostly understandable, so.... will I enjoy Garden of Sinners or would it just be incomprehensible? just curious. Also, I've still got to finish Deen's Fate Stay Night someday, but it's hard to get through. Even in my fav Deen stuff, things are sometimes hard to get through, I think it's the animation. XD anyway. Is Garden of Sinners okay to watch without reading anything first? just curious. I wanna enjoy it fully.

2023-04-30 20:48:24 +0000 UTCSo, there's this thing called "Magic" in the Nasuverse which is the pinnacle of all things that mages aspire to. There was a family of mages who reached the Root and discovered the Third Magic Heaven's Feel which is basically a power that has control of souls. You can shape souls and control them and essentially make yourself immortal. That family's "Magic" was lost and they didn't know how to get it back. That family then created the Einzbern Family, which is basically a perpetual Homunculus factory, in order for those Homunculi to endlessly try to find a way to rediscover that Magic. The HGW ritual was Justeaze's (the OG Einzbern) answer and it basically hijacks the Servant defense system of the planet just as a means to get a shit ton of mana to punch a hole leading to the Root. However, getting the same Magic through a different means is impossible. The best outcome that could happen is they get a new Magic. However, the resolution of the story is cool because Illya essentially uses the lost Magic Heaven's Feel to save Shirou's soul from his destroyed body. They then get a puppet to put his soul into because in Nasuverse lore the soul shapes the body. Essentially, he is no different from how he used to be. It's also cool because Rin was essentially using a beta version of the Second Magic Kaleidoscope to fight Sakura. Rin makes a joke in the VN about how OP they are. They have a Servant, the Second Magic, a product of the Third Magic, and a Reality Marble. All basically impossible things to reproduce in Magecraft.
