Kongming mentioned Baby Phoenix, he is equating Kabe to a strategist (who is also said to be equal to Kongming, Sleeping Dragon, in intellect) who is referred to as the Fledgling Phoenix, named Pang Tong. In some versions of RotK, he is described as either ugly or at the most plain looking. 2. There is no distinct reason as to why Kongming died... Most versions have mentioned that he died from extreme stress, mentioning that he barely slept at times. So he probably recognized how hard it is to be stressed to the extreme.
