Also the shadows that the “shadows” leave behind when murdering people seems to be a clear reference to the real-life “nuclear shadows” that were left behind by lives lost to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WWII, especially since the fisherman mentioned the war in episode 1. At this point it’s hard to say if there’s specific meaning in that connection or if they just wanted to use a very evocative image. Either way it’s definitely working for me.

It must be absolutely terrifying for both the person experiencing it as well as the people around them.
