I loved this discussion. Akio is SA, manipulation, and I do not approve. Unfortunately in up until Jun 16th this year, the legal age of consent in Japan was 13. So at the time it was not literally criminal. (consent was raised to 16). So Wakaba and the rest of the students not seeing anything inherently wrong with it, might not just be a result of the way she was groomed but cultural. Don't get me wrong Akio is definitely grooming everyone he comes into contact with. It wouldn't surprise me if Utena's age was chosen deliberately to show just how big of a knowledge, experience, maturity, and power imbalance is in adult child dynamics. That said, I nearly head desked when Wakaba gave a lecture about setting up a pattern of mistrust and then pursues an engaged man. Also when the scene was mirrored at the end with people talking about Kanae and Utena's focus was about whether or not she betrayed her prince rather than Akio being completely untrustworthy because of the way he lied to Kanae.
