"demon king" actually literally translates to "magic being king" just like "demon" means "magical being".

I don't think it's a matter of Aura acting any different than past demons. Flamme's point was that demons are prideful in their strength and prefer an open conflict when they think they can win. She specifically mentions that they would hide their strength for purposes such as stealth. They were cunning even in ancient times.
Aura was just being cautious due to Frieren's reputation as the slayer. In the end, she fell into the same trap as the demon generals killed by Flamme. They also assumed she wasn't concealing her mana because she did it too naturally, never even considering that she had concealed her mana for years/decades. The only difference between those generals and Aura was that Flamme was, at the time, a human mage with no reputation. Frieren was a mysterious elven mage known as the slayer and known for her role in the demon king's death, so Aura was more cautious fighting her.

You missed it, demons can conceal their magic for stealthy things for example. They just despise doing it so they almost "can’t".
