2022-03-05 03:29:30 +0000 UTCI am so glad you enjoyed this so much, this is hands down one of my favorite Pixar films! My sister can't even watch it because she just cries the whole time, lol. I love seeing their life together and the fact they don't have any dialog only the musical score (which is amazing by the way) and you can feel every second of it! That's what makes excellent film making. There were so many scenes where they had no dialog but spoke so much, like when he's looking at the book and you can tell he regrets not giving her the adventure he thought she always wanted and in the end realizes he did give her the best adventure, that's one of my favorite parts of the whole movie is him seeing there's more pictures that he never realized were there.. Some people say it's only just worth watching for the beginning and nothing else but I completely disagree, the rest of the film is just as good! I love the bond that forms between Carl and Russell, you find out he's going through his own problems, it makes sense why he was so persistent on getting that badge, he thought he would see his dad and be proud of him! Dug is so great and even though Kevin never speaks they gave him/her so much personality. I thought Muntz was a great villian, it makes sense that he would go insane, he was called a fraud, he was humiliated and stripped of his title and no one believed him and now he had been here looking for Kevin all this time, he said years would go by without a sighting and of course other then the dogs he had no sort of human interaction aside for the people he killed and judging by Dug's behavior you get the feeling Muntz was not very kind to the dogs, like you mentioned he treated them like slaves and had no problem putting them at risk. And of course Carl giving Russell the Ellie badge is so sweet and I love that Russell is so touched, he's more excited about that then the "real badge." I mean it's not like he knew very much about Ellie, he really only just heard him talk to her but he was smart, it's obvious he figured she was his wife and gone, he didn't need to be told. There's a reason why this film is one of only 3 animated films that was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars! This, Toy Story 3 and the first being Beauty & The Beast. I really recommend watching Inside Out! That movie is fantastic and is up there with Up! It's probably Disney's most mature film, I won't give anything away but they discuss things that they NEVER do in not just other animated films but films in general.
