I love this movie, it reminds me of my childhood. On road trips my parents liked taking the smaller hwy's including route 66. I-40 ruined route 66 in my area (Northern AZ, which Radiator Springs is based off a couple small towns along route 66 between Kingman and Williams, AZ, it ruined a lot of those cool towns.
