Love the show and yours reactions. I really agree about what you said. I didn’t understand why Shiv did what she did the first time I watched this episode. But in retrospect it makes sense because the siblings have always plotted and schemed against each other and that’s why they couldn’t work together in the end. One of the show’s thesis, which the showrunner Jesse Armstrong has explained before, is the idea that people never really change (not sure how much I agree with that). Under that perspective it also makes sense why Tom “won” in the end because he’s always been the ass kisser and that’s how he’s gotten the positions that he had over the course of the show. So, when Matsson was looking for somebody to follow orders without any questions, it made sense that he chose Tom over Shiv. I also like the fact that Tom kept Greg around as his punching bag, even though Greg betrayed him because he’s sort of his closest friend in a sad way. I also really like the tragic detail of the dinner table scene that was playing on the TV at Connor’s house, and the fact that Logan told Conner about the mausoleum. It really showed a side of Logan’s life that the kids were never really a part of, especially since they were distanced from Logan towards the end of the show. Putting her own self interest first instead of just giving the company to Kendall because “it would make him happy” or because dad promised it to him. Shiv has never made a decision in the show without plotting on how it could best suit her own interest first. They all love eachother (in whatever twisted way they could manage) but as a fault to Logan, he never properly prepared any 1 of them for that leadership role. Seeing them fight for a seat at his table, his love & attention, validation etc. was his own twisted interpretation of love. He never fully expected to give up his seat as CEO…. A God complex if you will. Therefore, he never properly prepared “a successor”. And shiv, as she put it … “just can’t stomach” even the idea of Ken cosplaying as someone/a role he ultimately just is not well equipped to do.

2024-02-16 18:49:29 +0000 UTCWhat I gathered from the “after show” interviews with the creators and cast is that the reasoning shiv changed her mind is due to multiple factors when it came down to it. Throughout the shows entirety we’ve seen Kendall in this continuous cycle of being beaten down then working his way up back to confident ken. But each time… when he even gets a little bit of power, he makes terrible decisions and goes off the rails. The ol “power corrupts”. So shiv genuinely not only believes he couldn’t do it…. But also feels he’s insufferable with any kind of power and despises that version of Kendal. When Ken sat in their Dad’s chair… that was the moment she changed her mind. Just the image of him as CEO repulsed her. We just saw the terrible decisions him and Rome made once they became CO CEO’s. It’s as their dad stated “you’re not serious people” And in the end Rome knew that which is why he gave in and changed his vote as well. Rome finally made a decision that was best for himself .. which was to just get out of the company. Shiv on the other hand would rather see TOM get it than her brother because with atleast Tom as CEO …. She feels that’s far better than Ken. We’ve seen throughout the show that Tom, although flawed…. takes direction well, can put emotions to the side and make sound business decisions, is willing to make sacrifices if need be for the good of the company etc. and Shiv knows this. And in that regard there’s a certain safety, predictability…. Or reliability, and security for Shiv and their unborn child. Ultimately she made the decision that suited her own interests more.
