Potential Redesign?

So I've got some plans in the future for when D.I.E.T. gets too big (D.I.E.T. 2? Name ideas anyone?) and part of it includes bringing back old characters and giving them new stories, or at least making cameo appearances in the next one.

Keep in mind, the "sequel" isn't going to be for a while, but here's an example of some of the looks I'm working on as well.  Thoughts on the changes?

Obviously, current Kayla is on the left, more realistic Kayla is on the right.

Appreciate the candid feedback. I will say though, I've been rather straightforward from the beginning that D.I.E.T. isn't a game, but rather a Visual Novel. A visual novel (Japanese: ビジュアルノベル, Hepburn: bijuaru noberu), often abbreviated as VN, is a form of digital semi-interactive fiction. Visual novels are often associated with and used in the medium of video games, but are not always labeled as such themselves. -- Stole this from Wikipedia but it fits the bill :) The reason I mention that is because the concept of D.I.E.T. isn't designed to be played the same way that games like tiggertoo's was - with repeatable activities that need to be met a number of times before progressing to the next stage. Instead, D.I.E.T. has always been more of a medium for me to present comics and stories differently than just 3 panels a week. They are fully fleshed out stories that are delivered once a month. As for Kayla looking too realistic - I'm simply bringing up the graphics of that model for the next volume of D.I.E.T. to be more in line with the graphics of other current characters (Rebecca, Whitney, Maya, etc.). Kayla's graphics certainly are outdated. If Rebecca/Whitney/Maya don't appear to be too realistic for the background images, then Kayla certainly won't either. As far as I remember, even Kayla's storyline was rather linear with the exception of a side-story involving the buffet. I used to do side stories for all my characters, but a poll months ago determined that something like 70% of respondents wanted new main characters each month (and I've only deviated from that slightly recently out of necessity). Basically, whether somebody likes or dislikes D.I.E.T. comes down to this - do you prefer a constant stream of new storylines or do you prefer interactive gameplay? If you're looking for interactive gameplay, that's not D.I.E.T. and probably never will be. It takes far more development time to produce that type of gameplay that I simply will never be able to commit to this project as this isn't my full time job. For me, I already had a steady following of people who watched me simply because I put out consistent comics with good storylines (thank you polarisdreamer!). This is simply another medium for me to do so where I can do new stories once a month rather than once every 5-6 months like my previous strictly comic series (Food For Thought, Lucy's Lucid Life, The Viking World Cruise, etc.).

Imo, it's a good approach. Although, given that you can't get photrealistic backgrounds, I'm not sure you won't end up with a mismatch between artstyles if you go too realistic ? My main problem with D.I.E.T. is how the entire concept - it's not a game, more of an illustrated story delivery. The illusion of agency that less linear games give makes them more interesting. It was fun finding out all the different branches, etc. Or the I enjoyed the branching Kayla storyline much more than the later extremely linear ones. It starts to feel rather .. stale, despite the varying storylines. It's really just a slightly differently delivered comics. Still, you have ways to go before you go full 'SirMister', heh, who has been milking the same dead cow with a few new jpgs each month for years now.

The change looks incredible keep up the good work!

Grandpapy Gman

Have you thought about adding your animations to the new one?

DoubleSoloBinger

I'll start dabbling more in the updated looks for the next version then I guess :D Will hopefully release a few "updated" looks in the coming weeks just for fun

CoastalBunny

It would certainly be too much work to go back in and change her appearance in the current version of D.I.E.T., but for the sequel it's not difficult at all :) I can just use the version on the right as the base model for everything.

CoastalBunny

Honestly she looks really good. I think that the changes will work really well

More realistic Kayla looks incredibly good! The skin texture is much more lifelike. If it isn't too much work that is definitely a noticeable improvement.

Great change!
