Nuki News #11 - Moving: Luck and Toil

I didn’t need to cross my fingers! It’s done! I’m finally moved into the new place. Whether the place is good or not will ultimately be determined by how I make the most of it. I’m a bit desperate for normalcy to reform itself in my life, so I’m glad I’ve got these NukiNews posts to have me journal things.

I have to say even getting this place was very fortunate, we cut things pretty close to our notice to vacate the old place, and it took a lot of work to make it happen(and we cut it close to our move-out time). Suffice to say I don’t wanna think about moving for a loooong while. With that said, there’s quite a lot I’ve learned from the experience.

1)Organization. Not that we didn’t make plans or categorize, or organize, we did! But I don’t think me or my roomies could know how tricky it’d really be to account for each other as well as ourselves. Moving out on your own is way easier than moving out as a couple, and that’s way easier than trying to move out as four. Going more in depth and making more deadlines to adhere to at least would have given more focus to what any of us should do to make progress at any given time. Making a calendar chart and grouped task lists and categorizing things would be what I’d do if I had to do it all over again.

2)Communication. This goes hand in hand with organization! We all have different ideas of what’s going on, and documenting our plans would also have more solidly communicated who is handling what, etc. There were probably a few too many times where I or someone else had to end up making a snap decision to get something done that could have been pre-planned. I made my own share of slip-ups too by making decisions off of incomplete information.

Now, moving with friends isn’t some business report or anything, so I can get this seems pretty silly to look over like this. It’s more just for me to see what things I can apply to my goals for doing art full time.

If I were to ever embark on a more involved project for example, I’d DEFINITELY need to make deadlines for myself, break down all the steps and categorize item checkpoints into groups. And I’d DEFINITELY need to communicate clearly back and forth with the person I’m working with so I’m clear on what I’d be making for them.

This has got me thinking… what would a project from me look like? I haven’t done anything too serious in some time. There are always a lot of different ideas I’ve got, it can be so tricky to decide what’s worth pursuing. But ultimately it’s going to come down to why I would choose a project in the first place. I think I would have to ask myself a very hard question - why would a story be worth telling? Why would a project be worth pursuing? Hmm. I should write that down! I’ll save it for next week though, so tune in then!

Moving is scary during those times, and I'm happy to see you managed it all like a champ! Get some good rest after all that As for projects, it can also be quite daunting, but I'm sure it'll be wonderful coming from you regardless ~
